Looking ahead to World Food Day – Video Competition

Next Wednesday is World Food Day and ‘Food for Thought’ has a video competition you may like to enter as a family.  The competition as that you use your imagination and create a video that illustrates your idea of what needs to be done to make healthy diets available for everyone and how each of us can improve our diets. Tell ‘Food for Thought’ how everyone can come together to achieve better nutrition and #ZeroHunger.

‘Food For Thought’, a local charity that we support, has a ‘Breakfast Programme’, which provides free breakfast every school day to all the students at the schools in North Caicos, Middle Caicos, South Caicos and Salt Cay. There are approximately 200 children in these schools. They also have our Food Bank Programme that operates in the remaining 10 public schools.  Next week they are also having a food drive that our School Council will help collect for.

In the Spring Term, it is our intention to look more closely at the UN Sustainable Development Goals together with our students – helping to empower them in ways in which they can support these and make a difference.  With World Food Day coming up and our commitment to support ‘Food for Thought’, it seems fitting to take a moment to explore this goal at this time. We hope your family considers entering the video competition in support of this.

Did you know that 1 in 9 people in this world don’t have enough to eat? This also affects many children, especially in developing countries where 66 million primary school-age children attend classes hungry.

There are many reasons why people can’t afford enough food: a family might lose their harvest in a storm or parents without a job can’t go to the supermarket to buy food for their children. Sustainable Development Goal 2, Zero Hunger aims to end hunger and provide access to healthy food for all people.
