Messy Fun in Toddlers!

t-messy-fun-oct-2014 (2)Making a mess is lots of fun when you are a toddler!  It may look like a mess but sensory exploration is an important part of a young child’s development.  Every day in toddlers there is some activity that involves making a mess and getting our hands dirty. Recently, we put shaving foam in the water table and had loads of fun spreading it over objects (including our face), got sticky by gluing pasta to make Mr. Bones our skeleton, and poured and scooped pasta shapes and lentils with various objects (most of which ended on the floor!).  See how much fun you can have at making a mess at home!

A Beautiful Spring Bonnet Parade

spring-bonnets-april-2014 (2)A spectacularly colourful display of spring bonnets paraded through the school today, donned by our younger students.  The bonnets were thoroughly enjoyed by onlooking students, teachers and parents, who clapped and cheered to show their praise for the wonderfully creative designs. Well done to all the families for working on these together and do enjoy looking at the photos.  It was so lovely to see such individuality and such a range of ideas on how to depict the theme of spring and Easter egg time.

The parade was followed by our annual PTA Easter Egg Hunt – an egg-citing event that by no egg-aaggeration is a much look forward to by all the students throughout the school.  Thank you to Haley and all of the PTA volunteers for making this happen.

Happy Easter break holiday everyone and we look forward to seeing you all back at Provo Primary on Monday 28th April.

Our Toddler Class’ First Open House

Our Toddler Class had its first Open House this week.  The class started in September and has been immensely popular with children and parents alike. Parents came along to the Open House and enjoyed a morning of activities and fun together with their child, finding out a bit more about what happens during our toddler sessions.

Things started with a circle time of songs and action rhymes.  The children have been learning baby sign language and the children’s knowledge and growing confidence in using this was very apparent throughout the session.  Everyone then explored the classroom together and got to do an art activity together – hand printing is a toddler favourite!  Each family then shared a time together with their child’s portfolio of art creations they have done.  Finally there was a picnic and play.  Everyone had a great time learning more about our toddler class  and it was a lovely opportunity for families to meet with each other and connect.

Toddlers enjoy Exploring their new Environment

Our Spring Term in Tots Class has been lots of fun! The children love their classroom,  especially playing hide and seek in soft play! We love to dress up in amazing costumes and play in the home corner, making food, caring for babies.  We also like reading books together. The farm is a fantastic role play area where we make lots of animal sounds and match the baby animal to their mummy animal. One of the most popular areas of the classroom is the train set where the children adore playing with the trains and cars. During Spring Term, the tots have also enjoyed some messy play with paint and shaving foam and, with Summer Term just round the corner, we are looking forward to some fun water play. See How We Grow

The Toddlers have been learning all about the spring and discovering what plants, animals and insects need to blossom and grow. We read a story about children who made house from sunflowers and played in it until the flowers tumbled down and the children collected seeds to plant again the following spring. They then had a go at planting their own sunflowers and learnt that they need water and light in order to grow.
