Grade 4/5 Remembers

November is the time of the year when we wear a red poppy in memory of those who sacrificed their lives for us during wars. Grade 4/5 have been looking at artefacts from World Wars One and Two. We have learnt about famous poets who fought in World War One, including: Rupert Brooke and Wilfred Owen. We have written our own poems about World War One.

Look at our fantastic work!

  1. Principal says:

Well done, Grade 4/5, your poems are full of detail and emotion. They inspired some of the children in Grade 3 to write their own poems. Here are two for you to read:

    The Terrible War.
Beneath the star lay a terrible sight.
    Guns Blowing.
    Lives gone.
    BOOM! POW!
    Barbed wire full of blood.
Bombs dropping with so much flare.
Long pointy guns aimed at people.
Tanks destroying everything in their path.
Huge bomber you can barely see from all the glare.
The only sound you can hear is the drone above.
The only thing that was left form the war, was love.

    War Poem
Long ago and far away a gun shot.
It was just the beginning of a war.

I think at night about the horror and the terrified.

A ton of death and hearts were broken.
    Not a word was spoken.

    It went on for years.
    People had faith.

    Some people couldn’t run.
    Wounds had spread.

    Bombs shook the country.
    Land was destroyed.

    If I was there I would…
Right now, I now I cant’ even feel.

    And if you were there,
    What might you feel?
    That is my question!
