even though they look different!<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">How did we find them?\u00a0 We multiplied the top number (numerator) by two and then we did the same to the bottom number (denominator) and got 6\/8.\u00a0 Then we multiplied the numerator by three and did the same to the denominator and got 9\/12.\u00a0 We went on with this pattern 10 times.\u00a0 Finally, we discovered that if we took the zero off 30\/40 it is the same as \u00be!<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><!--more--><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #00ccff;\"><strong>MORE OCEAN FACTS<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong>Oceans are over-fished causing serious problems<\/strong><\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong>90% of large fish such as tuna and cod are gone<\/strong><\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong>Math fun facts:<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">~\u00a0 As a decimal 90% is 0.9<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">~\u00a0 As a fraction 90% is 9\/10<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">We used our knowledge of our 9 times table to do some fraction patterns and we found that the denominator (remember that is the bottom number\u00a0 &#8211; d for down below) went up in 10\u2019s:<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">9\/10,\u00a0\u00a0 18\/20,\u00a0\u00a0 27\/30,\u00a0\u00a0 36\/40,\u00a0\u00a0 45\/50,\u00a0\u00a0 54\/60, \u00a0 63\/70, \u00a0 72\/80,\u00a0\u00a0 81\/90,\u00a0 90\/100<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Again, if we took the zero off the 90\/100, it brought us right back to 9\/10.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">We noticed again that these are all <strong>equivalent<\/strong> fractions, they are all worth the <strong>same value <\/strong>&#8211; and our teachers, Ms Alison and Mrs Stef are not SEL(fish) when it comes to helping us to learn!<\/span><\/p>\n<h4><\/h4>\n<h4><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong>Why don\u2019t you try to see what Maths facts you can find for the following ocean facts:<\/strong><\/span><\/h4>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong><\/strong>Oceans contain 80% of all life on Earth<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000;\">In\u00a0 1900 our oceans contained at least 6 times more fish than 2009.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Try to include some multiplication AND division facts!<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">And for those of you seeking a super challenge&#8230;The Pacific Ocean covers about 1\/3 of Earth\u2019s surface, and the Atlantic Ocean covers about 1\/5.
