<\/strong>\"\"<\/a>We were all surprised to hear that a scientific dig was going to take place in the Flamingo Classroom this week. We were even more surprised to hear that we<\/em> were going to be\u00a0the scientists!<\/p>\n

In order to understand what happens in a real scientific dig, we were set the task of finding and excavating a collection of objects that were completely buried in sand. We learned how to observe<\/em>, classify<\/em> and identify<\/em> the objects that we uncovered. It took a lot of time, care and patience in order to discover and clean the items. All of them had to be inspected and drawn before we were allowed to move them. It didn’t take long to see that we were dealing with a large collection of bones!<\/p>\n


\nAfter much discussion, we were able to classify the bones successfully. We could sort our finds into a few distinct groups, including leg bones, spinal vertebrae and\u00a0head bones.\u00a0It was a bit of a shock to discover that they all belonged to the same animal!<\/p>\n

Finally, we identified exactly which bones we had excavated, and researched the names of each of them. It was really interesting to feel their shape, weight and texture. When we had all the bones laid out, we were even able to identify the animal that we had uncovered!<\/p>\n

Everyone in Flamingo Class is now happy to display our discovery, although we suggest you don’t look if the sight of bones make you feel funny! We now have the important\u00a0task of treating our scientific evidence with the care and respect it deserves. If you’re feeling brave, come by and take a look!<\/p>\n
