In music, we composed our own piece of music called &#8216;Voices of the Rainforest&#8217;. Lots of interaction as you practise your skills in areas of Numeracy.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Area and Perimeter<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Learn everythng you ever wanted to know about <a title=\"Area and Perimeter\" href=\"http:\/\/www.bgfl.org\/bgfl\/custom\/resources_ftp\/client_ftp\/ks2\/maths\/perimeter_and_area\/index.html\" target=\"_blank\">area and perimeter<\/a> (suitable for Grades 3-6).<\/p>\n<p><strong>Geoboard Investigation<br \/>\n<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>We made shapes on a geoboard with rubber bands.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" id=\"image420\" alt=\"2510067.jpg\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.provoprimaryblog.com\/wp-content\/blogpix\/2510067.jpg\" data-recalc-dims=\"1\" \/><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" id=\"image418\" alt=\"2510065.jpg\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.provoprimaryblog.com\/wp-content\/blogpix\/2510065.jpg\" data-recalc-dims=\"1\" \/><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" id=\"image419\" alt=\"2510066.jpg\" src=\"https:\/\/i1.wp.com\/www.provoprimaryblog.com\/wp-content\/blogpix\/2510066.jpg\" data-recalc-dims=\"1\" \/><\/p>\n<p>We counted the squares inside to find the area. Sometimes there were half squares. Two half squares make a whole square. We recorded the shapes we made on dotted paper. We also made shapes with multilink and recorded the area on squared paper.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" id=\"image417\" alt=\"2510064.jpg\" src=\"https:\/\/i1.wp.com\/www.provoprimaryblog.com\/wp-content\/blogpix\/2510064.jpg\" data-recalc-dims=\"1\" \/><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" id=\"image421\" alt=\"2510068.jpg\" src=\"https:\/\/i1.wp.com\/www.provoprimaryblog.com\/wp-content\/blogpix\/2510068.jpg\" data-recalc-dims=\"1\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>Multilink Dog Investigation<br \/>\n<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>We made dogs with Multilink cubes.<\/p>\n<p>Each new dog was made bigger with one more cube, so the area increased by one cube. We found the perimeter of each dog. We noticed a pattern. Can you see the pattern?<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" id=\"image422\" alt=\"25100611.jpg\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.provoprimaryblog.com\/wp-content\/blogpix\/25100611.jpg\" data-recalc-dims=\"1\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Pink dog<br \/>\nArea = 8 cubes squared Perimeter = 18 cubes<\/p>\n<p>Orange dog<br \/>\nArea = 9 cubes squared Perimeter = 20 cubes<\/p>\n<p>Red dog<br \/>\nArea = 10 cubes squared Perimeter = 22 cubes<\/p>\n<p>What do you think the perimeter of the next dog will be?<\/p>\n<p>What do you think the perimeter of a dog with an area of of 20 cubes will be?<\/p>\n<p>Hint: Perimeter = (Area x 2) + 2<\/p>\n<p><strong>Swimming Pool Investigation<br \/>\n<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>We investigated making different shaped designs for swimming pools. Each pool had an area of 10 cubes squared. We explored the different total costs for making each pool, if the cost of the concrete perimeter was $100 for each cube. Look at the photo below. How much would each swimming pool cost to build?
