{"id":4061,"date":"2010-07-26T10:46:39","date_gmt":"2010-07-26T14:46:39","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.provoprimaryblog.com\/?p=4061"},"modified":"2010-07-26T10:46:39","modified_gmt":"2010-07-26T14:46:39","slug":"hummingbird-update","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/provolearning.com\/blog\/school-news\/hummingbird-update\/","title":{"rendered":"Hummingbird Update"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-4062\" title=\"hum-26-07-10\" src=\"https:\/\/i1.wp.com\/www.provoprimaryblog.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/07\/hum-26-07-10.jpg?resize=230%2C173\" alt=\"\" width=\"230\" height=\"173\" data-recalc-dims=\"1\" \/><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-4063\" title=\"hum-26-07-10a\" src=\"https:\/\/i1.wp.com\/www.provoprimaryblog.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/07\/hum-26-07-10a.jpg?resize=230%2C173\" alt=\"\" width=\"230\" height=\"173\" data-recalc-dims=\"1\" \/><\/p>\n<p>For those of you who have been following the progress of our playground Bahama Woodstar hummingbird, here is an update.<\/p>\n<p>Sadly, her first two eggs never hatched.\u00a0 The mother had incubated them well past the average 14-19 days, but nothing emerged.\u00a0 Mysteriously, we discovered that the eggs had disappeared last week, without a trace, and we were left to ponder as to whether they had been eaten by a predator or whether the hummingbird herself had disposed of them!\u00a0 The hummingbird was still around and we wondered whether she was going to use the nest again.\u00a0 Sure enough, a few days later, an egg appeared and this morning there were two!\u00a0 See in the photo, proud mum and her fresh new eggs. \u00a0 Why the first eggs didn&#8217;t hatch we will never know, were they unfertilized or did something go wrong?\u00a0 Hopefully, all will go well with these two eggs.\u00a0 At least with it now being the summer holidays, she can look after them in peace.\u00a0 Watch out for our next update and keep your fingers crossed!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>For those of you who have been following the progress of our playground Bahama Woodstar hummingbird, here is an update.
