{"id":3984,"date":"2010-06-25T23:23:18","date_gmt":"2010-06-25T23:23:18","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.provoprimaryblog.com\/?p=3984"},"modified":"2011-05-26T01:39:37","modified_gmt":"2011-05-26T01:39:37","slug":"year-3-5-little-water-cay-field-trip","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/provolearning.com\/blog\/year-3\/year-3-5-little-water-cay-field-trip\/","title":{"rendered":"Year 3-5 Little Water Cay Field Trip"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-3998\" title=\"yr3-5-water-cay-21-06-10-i\" src=\"https:\/\/i2.wp.com\/www.provoprimaryblog.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/06\/yr3-5-water-cay-21-06-10-i.jpg?resize=460%2C366\" alt=\"\" width=\"460\" height=\"366\" data-recalc-dims=\"1\" \/><\/p>\n<p>On Monday, Years 3, 4 and 5 excitedly headed down to Big Blue Dock to meet Chris,  Laura and Ben, our &#8216;Big Blue&#8217; happy tour guides and boat captain, for our much awaited  summer field trip!\u00a0 After being fitted with fins, life jackets, and after a formal  introduction to the boat and water safety, we set sail for Little Water Cay.\u00a0 The signs were there that  we were going to have a remarkable day as we saw a little sting ray before we  had even left the dock!<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-3992\" title=\"yr3-5-water-cay-21-06.10d\" src=\"https:\/\/i1.wp.com\/www.provoprimaryblog.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/06\/yr3-5-water-cay-21-06.10d.jpg?resize=460%2C306\" alt=\"\" width=\"460\" height=\"306\" data-recalc-dims=\"1\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Despite tricky winds, Chris managed to anchor the boat very close to shore and  Laura and Ben walked us around the island (More luck \u2013 another sting ray came out  to meet us!).<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-3994\" style=\"margin-left: 5px; margin-right: 5px;\" title=\"yr3-5-water-cay-21-06.10f\" src=\"https:\/\/i1.wp.com\/www.provoprimaryblog.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/06\/yr3-5-water-cay-21-06.10f.jpg?resize=150%2C200\" alt=\"\" width=\"150\" height=\"200\" data-recalc-dims=\"1\" \/><\/p>\n<p>On the tour we learnt how to spot a male and female iguana, we  learnt that they ate sea grapes and that hungry cats and dogs were the reason why  iguanas can not be found on Providenciales! <br style=\"clear: both;\" \/><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/i1.wp.com\/www.provoprimaryblog.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/06\/yr3-5-water-cay-21-06.10c.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-full  wp-image-3991\" title=\"yr3-5-water-cay-21-06.10c\" src=\"https:\/\/i1.wp.com\/www.provoprimaryblog.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/06\/yr3-5-water-cay-21-06.10c.jpg?resize=460%2C306\" alt=\"\" width=\"460\" height=\"306\" data-recalc-dims=\"1\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-full wp-image-3989 alignnone\" title=\"yr3-5-water-cay-21-06.10a\" src=\"https:\/\/i1.wp.com\/www.provoprimaryblog.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/06\/yr3-5-water-cay-21-06.10a.jpg?resize=460%2C306\" alt=\"\" width=\"460\" height=\"306\" data-recalc-dims=\"1\" \/><\/p>\n<p>After returning to the boat we headed out to the third largest reef in the world for a snorkeling  adventure.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-3993\" title=\"yr3-5-water-cay-21-06.10e\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.provoprimaryblog.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/06\/yr3-5-water-cay-21-06.10e.jpg?resize=460%2C613\" alt=\"\" width=\"460\" height=\"613\" data-recalc-dims=\"1\" \/><\/p>\n<p>We were extremely impressed by the beautiful sea life and in awe of life  beneath the waves; the visibility was excellent!\u00a0 The different corals looked like we  had landed on a different planet.\u00a0 We saw parrot fish, a queen parrot fish, a barracuda, yellow tail snapper, a big grouper and a trumpet fish to name  a few!\u00a0 A lucky few saw a baby nurse shark swimming below us!<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-3995\" style=\"margin-left: 5px; margin-right: 5px;\" title=\"yr3-5-water-cay-21-06.10g\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.provoprimaryblog.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/06\/yr3-5-water-cay-21-06.10g.jpg?resize=150%2C113\" alt=\"\" width=\"150\" height=\"113\" data-recalc-dims=\"1\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Our last part of the trip took us back to a different side of Little Water Cay, here we learn about  mangroves.\u00a0 Laura also told us that  there were three different types of mangroves.\u00a0 Did you know that they can live in salt water  because they sacrifice one of their leaves to store all the salt? Or that\u00a0 Mangroves are a form of defense against hurricanes? <br style=\"clear: both;\" \/><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-full  wp-image-3999\" title=\"yr3-5-water-cay-21-06.10j\" src=\"https:\/\/i1.wp.com\/www.provoprimaryblog.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/06\/yr3-5-water-cay-21-06.10j.jpg?resize=460%2C306\" alt=\"\" width=\"460\" height=\"306\" data-recalc-dims=\"1\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Ben and Laura showed us an upside down jelly fish.\u00a0 One child said \u201cthe  upside  down jelly fish looked impressive the downside up!\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The children and teachers who were lucky enough to go on this trip would like to say a HUGE thank you  to Big Blue for doing the the two trips it took to take everyone, and looking after us and for teaching us so much about life around  our island.\u00a0 Everyone had such a fantastic time and were sad the trip had to come to  an end!\u00a0 Hummm\u2026 Jackie, Ben, Laura and Chris\u2026.
