Last term, our Christmas Drive resulted in an amazing response of donations of toys, household and toiletry items, clothing and food for the new Provo Children’s Home.\u00a0 The children there are now settled in their new home and all of the items have been gratefully received and are being used.\u00a0 A heartfelt thank you again, everyone.<\/p>\n
In our ‘Celebration Assembly’ on Friday, Miss Beki, who volunteers at the home, told us that these donations were also being appreciated by some Haitian orphans who are staying there this week.\u00a0 This is a touching story of how our children are directly helping other children in our community.<\/p>\n
Support in our school community was once again generous for our neighbouring Haitian community who experienced a devastating earthquake a few weeks ago.\u00a0 <\/p>\n
Much needed clothing items were donated and we had a special ‘Wear Red for Haiti’ dress down day which raised $180. The IGA Supermarket has promised to double the money raised.<\/p>\n
We would like to commend all of our parents and other community members who have been busily volunteering their time and resources through various projects and organisations. \u00a0 We have heard of tremendous support to a team of volunteers at Provo Air Centre who are providing food and water for relief workers en route to and from Haiti. \u00a0 Local donations continue to be sent on planes to Haiti and items also are being collected\u00a0 for groups of orphan children staying here on their way to the USA.<\/p>\n
All of these projects are directly helping and reaching the people who need it.\u00a0 We are keen to continue to help support these local projects and plan to to discuss a proposed weekly donation scheme at our FOPPS meeting next week.<\/p>\n
