\"\"As part of our Celebrations <\/em>topics, Year 1 and 2 have so far enjoyed learning about Halloween, Bonfire Night, Remembrance Day and Diwali.<\/p>\n

In the lead up to November 5th<\/sup> (Remember, remember the 5th<\/sup>of November\u2026<\/em>), the Year 1 children became aware that there were a number of safety concerns that should be considered before enjoying the annual celebrations at Bay Bistro.\u00a0 Working independently and in pairs, Hummingbird class took the time to make safety posters, detailing things to be avoided, what to look out for and how to look after yourself in the dark environment.\u00a0 The year 1\u2019s enjoyed making BOLD <\/strong>titles, using number bullet points, bright colours and pictures to make their posters easy to read and accessible to all ages.<\/p>\n

As well as looking at the safety aspects, Year 1 used various medias to create images they felt reflected Bonfire night.\u00a0 Glitter, glue, jewels, beads, pipe cleaners and pom poms allowed the Hummingbirds to show off their creative flare and how they perceive the sights of Bonfire Night.\u00a0 We also created firework pictures on the laptops using the program Paint.<\/p>\n

After many of us went to the Bonfire Night celebrations, we spent the next day using our senses to reflect on what we had experienced.\u00a0 We decided to create our own bonfires, using tissue paper and twigs from our school garden, and then complete it with descriptive language turning them into shape poems.<\/p>\n
