\"\"<\/a>Since the start of the Summer Term, Year 4 have been learning about how unique and delicate our local habitats are here in the Turks and Caicos Islands. In fact, we have been learning that the same is true for habitats all around the world!<\/p>\n

Children have been learning about the different elements that make a habitat and how all life-forms compete with each other other for food, light, shelter and space. To demonstrate this relationship, we created food chains that showed the interdependence of all life forms.<\/p>\n

Children then turned their food chains into hanging mobiles. Children learned how light from the sun is converted into energy\u00a0by plant matter (through photosynthesis) and that all insect and animal life somehow rely on this growth for survival. Even huge animals, for example:<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

Killer whale (eats…) – \u00a0Seals – Squid – Small Crabs – Algae<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

Children then discovered that, in return, plant life at the bottom of the food chain benefited from nutrients within the soil that are constantly enriched by the decomposition and waste of the animals within their habitat. To Year 4’s disgust, these terms refer to rotting, dead animals and their poo!<\/p>\n

All in all, the Year 4s have produced some excellent Food Chains – come by to check them out!<\/p>\n
