\"ps-national-heritage-week-oct-2016-4\"At the start of our Early Years National Heritage Week celebrations, the preschoolers faces’ lit up as they entered the door seeing rays of colourful scarves hanging up in their classroom. Some said, \u201cI see a rainbow,\u201d some called out their favourite colour, \u00a0 while others simply enjoyed the feeling of wrapping themselves up in the soft hanging cloth.<\/p>\n

Each colour is special to the Turks and Caicos.\u00a0 The colours are on our National Costume.\u00a0 Each colour represents one or more of the islands that make up our country and identifies what makes them special.\u00a0 Do you know your Island colours?<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

Red represents Grand Turk\u2026 the Turks Head Cactus. Yellow: the sunshine,\u00a0 Turquoise: Provo…the turquoise water, Green: North Caicos\u2026vegetation, Tan-Middle caicos\u2026straw, Orange: South Caicos…lobster, Pink: the flamingo and the conch and Yellow: the sunshine.<\/p>\n

\"511ojwaugtl-_sx384_bo1204203200_\"The children enjoyed listening to a simplified version of Myiahs\u2019 Rainbow Dress, by local author Tammarra Forbes<\/span>.\u00a0 Myiah feels a great sense of national sense of pride as she shares the story of the tapered colours on the National Dress of the Turks & Caicos Islands.<\/p>\n

During the week the children worked on an art project together using many different technique (gluing and sticking, painting etc). Every time they used a colour,\u00a0 it was explained which island it represents with reference to the story of Myiahs\u2019 Rainbow Dress.\u00a0 Look at the colourful picture we made together!<\/p>\n

The children were thrilled when they went to the green field and played a running game,\u00a0 matching colours to the hula hoops.\u00a0 We called it \u201cThe Colour Run.\u201d<\/p>\n

To celebrate this week of learning, the children concluded with a dance production for the parents. The children made their own colourful headbands and ties and they danced to \u201cWelcome to Provo\u201d by Tropical Impulse.\u00a0 Why not dance along too as you listen to the song…<\/p>\n
