\"ey-national-heritage-oct-2016-24\"<\/a>This year the Early Years team decided to make National Heritage Day a week long celebration.\u00a0 We each looked at different parts of our Turks and Caicos heritage and completed some pretty awesome outfits, dances and songs related to it.<\/p>\n

In Toddlers and Preschool, we made accessories for a dance performance – the girls made bow headbands and the boys made ties in the colours that represent the different islands. We practised shaking our hips in the Shay Shay, and also “Mashed da Roach” to the song “Welcome to Provo” by Tropical Impulse, then invited parents in for a performance. Some even joined in with us!<\/p>\n

In JK we learned that an island is a piece of land surrounded by water. We had great fun discussing the beautiful ocean that surrounds us here on Providenciales and the children made hats decorated with an ocean animal of their choice. We also created a box where children can build their own ocean. The Turks and Caicos is \u2018beautiful by nature\u2019 so we discussed what this means and the children unanimously came up with the definition of \u2018beautiful\u2019 as being a rainbow and that nature is trees.<\/p>\n

In SK we learned all about the National Dress and what each colour represents.\u00a0 We enjoyed tracing, cutting and painting our very own dresses and shirts.\u00a0 In addition to this, we were lucky enough to learn a traditional folk song called Blue Hills Water Dry<\/em>.\u00a0 Miss Mani\u2019s Y3 class were kind enough to teach us the words and the dance.\u00a0 We really enjoyed wearing our National Costumes and performing a song that is truly a part of the Turks and Caicos heritage.<\/p>\n
