\"yr5-clinometer-oct-2015<\/a>Year 5 students have written a recount of their coastal investigation field trip in which they learnt to use a clinometer.<\/p>\n

First, Year 5 went to the DEMA<\/a> building to pick up Mr Roddy Mcleod. We walked across the road with him to the beach by the Bight Park. Mr Roddy showed us how to use a clinometer. He explained to us it is something that measures whether the slopes on the beach have risen or fallen.<\/p>\n

“Roddy is a Provo Primary Alumni.\u00a0 How wonderful that he has followed a career path that focuses on looking after our environmental and is now sharing his knowledge and passion, inspiring a new generation of Provo Primary children”.<\/em> Miss Sian<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

After that, we got into groups and each used the clinometer to measure the beach along with a tape measure and a pole. The pole is used so you can look through the clinometer at the same level where your eye is to the pole. As soon as everyone had finished using the clinometer, we went into the water to cool off.<\/p>\n

Afterwards, we walked down Grace Bay beach towards Ganzevoort as DEMA have a specific spot where they measure the beach again. Next, we started talking about the plants that are taking over the other plants on the island. Mr Roddy often tries to cut back or remove the casuarina and scaevola to help the beach plant life. We asked Roddy lots of questions about the dunes, erosion and deposition.<\/p>\n

With the help of parents-Joan, Katrina and Nicole we drove back to school, happy we had learnt so much!<\/p>\n
