The Grade 2 thoroughly enjoyed their visit to Skybase at Providenciales Airport. Captain Donny Click took us on a guided tour and showed us the hanger, a small plane and a helicopter.<\/p>\n

We started off by traveling around the grounds in two extended golf carts. These were fun to ride in!<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

First, we went to the hanger where planes are taken for repairs. We saw lots of examples of the six different types of simple machines we had been learning about in Design and Technology: pulleys, wheels and axles, wedges, inclined planes, screws and levers.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

After that, we saw a small plane being worked on outside. We are learning about flight in Science and Captain Donny explained to us how the shape of the wings helped the plane to lift off the ground.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

We all got to go into the plane and were amazed by all the buttons in the cockpit!<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

The carts then took us over the helicopter.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

We got to sit in the back and most of us got to sit in the front seat, too.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

Unfortunately, with the dark clouds looming overhead, the heavens eventually opened we were caught in a torrential downpour before some of us got to go in. But the rain didn’t dampen our spirits and we all agreed that this added to the whole fun of the trip!<\/p>\n

At the end, we went into the Skybase lounge and got to ask Captain Donny some final questions. He then gave each of us a Co-pilots certificate before we headed back to school.<\/p>\n

Thank you Captain Donny for a super tour that was both very interesting and fun. We learnt lots of new things about machines and flight. We hope you enjoy reading our thank you letters.<\/p>\n
