However, if you were very, very naughty you would be sent to meet the incredibly scary Mr Longnose.<\/p>\n

He would threaten to carry you off unless you promised to be good. Longnose was an adult, usually a relative, who wore a special mask that every child knew and feared. When Mr Longnose came after you, you ALWAYS promised to change your behaviour.
