\"yr-4-hand-poems-feb2013\"<\/a>As part of their Science topic this term, Year Four students have been learning about skin.<\/p>\n

In Literacy, with Miss Bonnie, they used jeweller\u2019s loupes to look closely at their hands and created a poem while thinking about two focus questions: \u201cWhat else does it look like?\u201d and \u201cWhat does it remind me of?\u201d<\/p>\n

Here are some examples of their thoughtful poems:<\/p>\n

My Hand<\/strong><\/p>\n

Like a whirlpool whirling in the deep blue sea,<\/p>\n

Curved lines like a zebra running in Africa,<\/p>\n

A sunset lowering over the horizon,<\/p>\n

A mountain looming in the distance,<\/p>\n

A rope running down a mountain,<\/p>\n

Waves crashing down onto a beautiful beach,<\/p>\n

Water running down a river in Egypt,<\/p>\n

A thin layer of snow lying on my fingertip,<\/p>\n

An ice cream cone in a shop,<\/p>\n

My hand, so many different patterns!<\/p>\n

My Hand is a\u2026<\/strong><\/p>\n

Tiger prowling the jungle,<\/p>\n

The moon orbiting us this second,<\/p>\n

A little lane with cars crossing quietly,<\/p>\n

Small dots on a poor little child with measles,<\/p>\n

An ice cream cone floating in someone\u2019s stomach,<\/p>\n

My nails as hard as a piece of glass, broken on the floor,<\/p>\n

One million little soldiers marching along the plains.<\/p>\n

My hand makes me think of the stripes on a zebra, so black and bold,<\/p>\n

A never-ending whirlpool spinning round,<\/p>\n

Cracks in a humongous canyon,<\/p>\n

Lines on my paper,<\/p>\n

A conch shell from the sea,<\/p>\n

Scratches on an old plank of wood,<\/p>\n

Big boulders in our school playground,<\/p>\n

Volcanoes just about to erupt,<\/p>\n

A swirling river,<\/p>\n

Water so clear and blue,<\/p>\n

A dark cup of coffee that my Mom has,<\/p>\n
