In Year 6, the children go on a week long field trip to really develop their sense of independence and confidence before they transition to secondary school. In the last few years, I have introduced an overnight stay to North and Middle Caicos in Year 5 as a precursor to the Year 6 trip. It has been hugely successful and this year was no exception! We would like to thank Mr. Mark Parrish from Big Blue for his outstanding local environmental knowledge and our amazing parent helper, Mr Anthony. We would also like to thank all of the friendly residents of North and Middle Caicos for welcoming and looking after us.
We travelled across to North Caicos on the 9.30am ferry and whizzed our way down to Haulover cotton plantation where we explored the fascinating ruins. This was followed by a picnic beach lunch and swim. Later, we explored Conch Bar Caves before retiring to Pelican Beach hotel for a shower and the most delicious dinner ever, cooked by Miss Suzie. Hide and seek and some work on our school booklets before bed was next.
The following day, after another amazing breakfast, we headed to North Caicos Farm where we were welcomed and encouraged to see all the crops and to feed their pigs papaya! We then crashed into some amazing waves at Mudjin Harbour before a pizza lunch and games at Horsestable before home!
The children were exemplary in their behaviour and not one of them wanted to come home. A truly successful trip!
Spencer had an absolutely amazing time on this overnight – thank you so much, Miss Cara, for providing the students this opportunity to learn and grow outside of the classroom!
