Year 5/6’s North and Middle Caicos Overnight Adventure!

yr-5-6-trip-2013 (4)Last Wednesday and Thursday (15th and 16th May)Year 5/6 set off on a fabulous adventure. We started our day travelling across the beautiful ocean on the ‘Caribbean Cruisin’ ferry to North Caicos.  On arrival we headed straight for Wades Green Cotton Plantation where we were lucky enough to have a guided tour around the ruins by an amazing local lady Alveira Duncan.

yr-5-6-trip-2013 (1)We have been learning all about the American Revolution and the Loyalists so it was very interesting to see what Wade Stubbs did and why he came here.

yr-5-6-trip-2013 (16)Next stop was the North to Middle Causeway which was a real example to the children of the power of nature and what hurricanes can really do.

yr-5-6-trip-2013 (15)It was definitely time for lunch by then so we headed to the beautiful Mudjin Harbour to eat in the shade and relax.

Conch Bar Caves was next on our list and what an adventure we had there! It was very dark and spooky inside the impressive caves and we had lots of fun spotting bats!

yr-5-6-trip-2013 (10)We then set of for the Middle Caicos Co-op where we learnt about the different traditional crafts that are still around today: boat carving, basket weaving, bag making etc.

yr-5-6-trip-2013 (6)Final stop was Bambarra Beach for a well-earned swim before heading back to North for a delicious home-cooked meal by the wonderful Susie Gardiner of Pelican Beach Hotel.  A few games of ‘rob the nest’ later and we were all exhausted and ready for our beds.

The next day we got up bright and early and after a walk on the beach and a hearty breakfast we set off on our kayaking adventure thanks to BigBlue. We kayaked along the mangroves and had so much fun!

yr-5-6-trip-2013 (22)Horsestable beach was perfect for a lunch and swim stop before having a brilliant tour around a working farm with Courtney Misick, with the biggest pigs I’ve ever seen.

We were transported everywhere over the two days by the absolutely wonderful Mac Hamilton from M+M Motors who was not only our driver but a superb helper and tour guide along the way. Thank you Mac!

Sadly, it was then time for home but what an amazing adventure we had to bring back with us to tell. This trip would simply not have been in any way possible without the just staggeringly amazing support of Mrs B and Mr Ted  who were quite simply phenomenal throughout the trip. Thank you so much! Thank you also Mr Ted for all of your fantastic photos – almost 600 images of our trip in all!

What left me with such a happy feeling as I got off the ferry on Thursday was not only what an adventure we had but also how amazing the children were throughout-superb ambassadors for Provo Primary!

What fabulous pics and what a memorable trip it was ! How could it fail, with such a wonderful group of youngsters? Well done, Miss Cara, and everyone who was involved in the trip.
