Year 1 Visit the Conch Farm and Bay Bistro

yr1-conch-farm-2014 (8)Year 1 had such an exciting morning visiting Caicos Conch Farm and Bay Bistro as part of our learning about our current topic, My Country: TCI. When we arrived at the Conch Farm, we got a brief lesson of the history of the farm and also got to learn lots of information facts. Did you know that the conch is as small as a pin when it’s created? Or did you know that conch can float like a butterfly in the ocean before it gets a shell?

After our lesson, we took a hands-on tour of the farm. We got to see and touch conch in the different pools, as well as some groupers and snappers. The conch are separated into pools by their age. We even managed to see some other local animals—a crab, a puppy and a crane. Finally, the children got to meet and touch Sally and Jerry!

Clive and Joan Whent were so kind to invite our class to Bay Bistro to sample some yummy conch dishes, namely conch fritters, pizza and wontons! Then, to top it off, they got to have some delicious ice cream. In case you are wondering… this was not conch flavoured!

What a lovely trip. I would like to pass along a BIG thank you to Caicos Conch Farm, Clive and Joan and all of our awesome volunteer drivers! This trip wouldn’ t have been possible without you.
