Where Dreams Come True . . .

On Monday 2nd June, all of the children from Grade 5/6 of Provo Primary School flew off to Orlando for 4 days. The field trip was organised through an American Company, allowing us to access Disney’s Youth Education Scheme and included 3 workshops run by Disney experts in Animal Kingdom, Epcot and Hollywood Studios as well as giving us access to the other activities in the parks too!

Grade 5/6 at Epcot

During our time in Orlando we enjoyed staying at Disney’s All-Star Sports Resort, we loved the meal at Planet Hollywood and the rides were thrilling, exciting and great fun!

We watched the parade and fireworks in the Magic Kingdom and went on quite a few rides – both thrilling and fun.

In the Animal Kingdom, we learned all about how animals survive and learn in the wild and saw lots of animals up close on the Kilimanjaro Safari; we enjoyed the Finding Nemo show where the puppets were fantastic and the actors were brilliant; we were terrified by Yeti on Expedition Everest and got soaked on the Kali River Rapids; we tried to work out the technology behind some of the creatures in the parade and we were enthralled by the Festival of the Lion King – and some of us even got to take part!

In Epcot, we learned about how man is impacting on many sea creatures – particularly turtles, sharks, manatees and dolphins – and tried to work out what we could do to prevent any further decline in the numbers of these creatures (we were at the top of the huge aquarium watching how Disney trainers work with these creatures); we enjoyed the high-speed of Test Track, the scenery of Soarin’, the adventure of Mission Space and the history of Spaceship Earth.

In Hollywood Studios, we learned about Walt Disney and the beginnings of cartoon films, but we really enjoyed learning about how cartoons are drawn and particularly how to draw Mickey Mouse – we have been practising our drawing skills since we got back!

Our time passed very quickly, but we are very proud of the fact that our children were rated as ‘outstanding’ by their instructors and throughout our journey many people expressed their pleasure at our children’s attitude, behaviour and knowledge.

We’d like to thank our generous sponsors and IGA shoppers for helping our fund-raising efforts.
