Each year during the month of October ‘The Week of the Young Child’ is celebrated here in the Turks and Caicos. This year the week commences October 6-10, 2014 under the theme:
“Quality Matters in Early Childhood Care and Education”.
Quality in Early Childhood settings enables children to grow and learn in environments that develop their social and cognitive skills with positive long term effects.
It fosters a higher ability of thinking and language skills and promotes good health and nutrition. It ensures that classroom settings are safe and secure and gives children the freedom to play and learn. It supports culture and is flexible to the diverse needs of its community. It promotes the use of technology and provides scientific experiences that encourage exploration and curiosity.
Quality programmes allow greater teacher/child interaction and teach discipline. It provides opportunities to engage families in discussions, school activities and workshops. It ensures that its teachers’ are kept current with modern trends and monitors and reports the progress of the children in its care.
