Set within the context of the 1001 Arabian Nights from which the story originates, this panto-style version of Aladdin contains all the traditional elements and characters, alongside a whole host of less conventional ones!

The story begins in the bustling and spice-fragranced Eastern Streets, encountering dancers, musicians and pick pockets through the lively rhythms of our opening number In The Market Place.  Here we meet the hero of our panto…

Aladdin, a kind-hearted lad determined to build a new swimming pool for Provo Primary School.  There is hissing and booing at the wicked Abanazar; who aims to find the long-lost lamp of unlimited power to aid him in building a dazzling resort for the rich and famous.

On the other side of town, we see the frustration of the lovely Princess Jasmine, trapped in a life of luxury at the Palace.  Disguising herself as a commoner, Jasmine relishes an all-too-brief escape into the outside world before allowing us a glimpse at the wonder of emerging love when she meets Aladdin.

Abanazar attempts to thwart the love shared between Aladdin and Jasmine by using Aladdin for his own evil purposes.  Abandoning him in a deep and dark cave, Aladdin encounters the magical Genie of the Lamp, who, along with his assistants The Three Wishes, enables Aladdin to become rich enough so that he can marry his love.

The devious Abanazar finally gains the power he has craved in and cruelly separates our young lovers.  Faith proves to be well founded as once more the tables turn and Widow Twankey along with her twins Wishy and Washy, get back the lamp.

We continue on the roller-coaster ride towards a conclusion with Aladdin, Jasmine and her father pursuing Widow Twankey through the streets with Abanazar and his guards hot on their trail.  Thankfully all ends satisfactorily with Aladdin being restored to good fortune.  A wedding celebrations followed by a roaring finale number brings our panto this year to an end.
