Taking Flight with Flamingo Wisdom

As our fully-fledged graduating class of 2015 and leaving students take flight from our Flamingo Lake location, we would like to share with them some ‘Flamingo Wisdom’ which encourages them to make good choices as they continue to soar.

At Provo Primary, our PSHCE and MindUp programmes promote children’s personal, social and emotional development, as well as their health and well-being. They help to give children the knowledge, skills and understanding they need to lead confident, healthy, independent lives and to become informed, active, responsible citizens. Understanding how and why our brains react to various situations and learning how to control emotions such as fear, anger, sadness and how to respond appropriately to life’s challenges is a large part of MindUp, along with learning how to calm the mind on a daily basis.

PSHCE and MindUp are far more than just something that we ‘teach’ once a week in a structured classroom environment: they are implicit in so many aspects of school life. These ‘Life Skills’, which are embedded into the culture of Provo Primary, encourage our students to thrive and grow into well-rounded, emotionally intelligent, happy and healthy individuals.

As we look ahead to our next academic school year, we have chosen to focus on this area of our school curriculum and its fundamental role in our school ethos, as part of our School Improvement Plan. We are excited that we will be sharing, working together and further enhancing our vision and learning with all of our students, parents, teachers and community friends alike. We look forward to introducing you to some of the concepts and benefits MindUp can bring you also, while reinforcing these concepts with your children at home.
