School Council News September 2015

school-council2015 School Council Elections have come to an end and the new School Councillors have been appointed.

There was a flurry of excitement last week as the students at Provo Primary were preparing presentations for their class explaining why they should be chosen to represent their class in the School Council. The feedback from teachers, students and the children on the presentations was so positive and all those who participated did a ‘fabulous’ job. We had posters, film clips, presentation cards and a whole array of wonderfully confident and vibrant presentations – so well done to ALL of YOU who participated.

We have had our first meeting already, which included some discussions about enhancing our school environment:

  • Revaluation of the playground schedule;
  • Possibility of play time equipment being used on the grass;
  • New ideas of how to deal with the litter problem caused during break/lunch times;
  • Plus looking into developing the skills of our councillors to become ‘play time helpers’, assisting in bringing even more ‘mindful’ sharing and caring during our play times.

The Councillors have attended to their first week of duties with huge smiles and great enthusiasm – Well done. I look forward to working with them this year seeing what wonders we can achieve.

Over the year, the School Council focuses on ways in which everyone can support the school, along with local and distant communities.  This term there will be a focus on the local community.  Look out for projects and fundraising Dress Down Days that the School Council will be organising and encouraging you to participate in.
