Remember, Remember the 5th November!

As part of this half-term’s “Let’s Celebrate” topic, Flamingo Class have enjoyed a week learning about and celebrating Bonfire Night! We explored the occasion’s history and traditions, in order to understand why this event has become such a popular celebration in Britain. Read on to find out more about our Design & Technology task to create a life-sized Guy Fawkes and to see photos of Bonfire Night, Turks and Caicos Style!

From all our research, we were able to re-create the famous events of the Gunpowder Plot and create an information text to share our new knowledge! Please feel free to ask any of us about the terrifying ‘plot’ or come to our classroom to read our display…we’re all experts now!
As part of our Design & Technology we were also set a task to create a life-sized Guy Fawkes, dressed in typical clothing of the Stewart period! It took a lot of work and cooperation, but we were very pleased with our creation. The only problem was that, half way through the project, we realised that it was a tradition to burn a ‘Guy’ on the bonfire! Surely, we thought, Mr Toby wouldn’t ask us to burn our project on a bonfire!

How wrong we were! Our class bonfire party was great fun! We collected ‘Pennies for the Guy’ in the traditional way, before placing him (very carefully) on top of our fire. Despite all our hard work, we all thoroughly enjoyed sharing the sight of our ‘Guy’ on the bonfire! Once the fire had died down, we were happy to share out Toffee Apples and Cinder Toffee, which we had made together in class! What a great evening – Bonfire Night, Turks and Caicos style!
