Music in the Garden with the Kindergarten band!

k-garden-music-mar-2015 (1)Music was in the air last week as the Kindergarten class were inspired to form a whole-class band by a single student’s rat-tap-tapping!

After a busy morning play filled with running, climbing and hide-and-seek, children could be heard around the garden singing our popular “How green you are?” song. Suddenly, however, their singing was accompanied by improvised percussion from one student. Then two…and, well, the rest was a perfect lesson in how infectious music can be!

Children searched for instruments and experimented with sound to find something that would add to the growing band. The beat remained strong and consistent as pupils rushed to add rattles, brushes and bass drums to the growing rhythm.

As the play developed singers joined and dancing accompanied. When asked why they weren’t taking part, one student even replied “I’m the audience!”

The group soon disbanded into smaller and separate games, but the joy of the shared game was easy to notice on each child’s face.

Keep your ears out for more music from the garden!
