Let’s build a Cardboard City together…

All Provo Primary families are invited to join us for an afternoon of creativity at our Global Cardboard Challenge event.

Help us to build… ‘Cardboardia’ a city where everything is made from recycled cardboard!

What would your family add to our city? A fairground? A skyscraper? A castle? A park or even a soccer stadium? We’ll need everything from the neighbourhood cat to an international airport!  Will it be a city of the past, present or future? No idea is too big or too small for Cardboardia – our imagination is the only limit!

So start planning as a family and meet us at Provo Primary on Sunday 30th – 3pm onwards.

Just bring:
• Scissors, box cutters, etc.
• LOTS of masking tape (no duct tape please)
• An imagination

We have loads of cardboard but feel free to bring any tubes, thin card or any other card resources you think would help to embellish our city.

Please BYO drinks and snacks and cash for our lemonade stand!

All children need to be accompanied by at least one family adult or supervising adult.

No technology, just simple, basic, imaginative fun!

Initially inspired by the short film, ‘Caine’s Arcade,’ the Global Cardboard Challenge is a worldwide celebration of child creativity and the role communities can play in fostering it.

The film is well worth a watch:

9-year-old Caine Monroy spent his summer vacation building an elaborate cardboard arcade inside his dad’s store. Filmmaker Nirvan Mullick walked in by chance and  Caine asked him to play, and, well, watch Caine’s Arcade and Caine’s Arcade 2 to see what happened next… 6 years on Caine’s Arcade still inspires.

It’s time to ‘think outside the box’!

We are excited about our very 1st participation in the Global Cardboard Challenge because it:
engages children in creative play
• fosters creativity, ingenuity, resourcefulness, perseverance and teamwork
• gives children an opportunity to explore their interests and passions, and make things that have an impact on others
• provides a platform for communities to actively foster and celebrate child creativity
• increases global happiness and makes for a happier, more playful world.
• is FUN!

Through the Cardboard Challenge, children will learn maths, engineering and other STEM related concepts, writing, design thinking, creative problem solving,
sustainability, social entrepreneurship and more.

The Challenge is a great way to recycle the massive pile of cardboard packaging that our resources came on island in and we’re sure it will get families involved and excited about playing and learning together.

The Global Cardboard Challenge is a fun, playful and inspiring way to foster creativity
in children through a simple process called Creative Play. Through creative play, kids engage their imaginations and open up their minds to what’s possible – and then they turn their ideas into something real. In this process, children learn to develop and test their own ideas, take chances, solve problems, get input from others and become better creative thinkers.
At the heart of creative play is the idea that children are naturally creative and curious. Adults can help foster this natural creativity by giving guidance, context and support; it doesn’t take much more than a little time and space.  (Imagination Foundation)
