Introducing… Theatre Arts Class… a real class act!

theatre-arts-oct-2015Here at Provo Primary School we have launched an exciting new class format called ‘Theatre Arts’ for Years 3 – 6.  Taught together by myself, Mrs. Niki, and Ms. Shara, the class incorporates music, singing, dramatic acting and movement through age relevant topics and themes.

This term the children have spent a lot of time working on mime; visualizing scenes, feelings and surroundings, as well as voice projection and word enunciation. The children have learnt through structured, guided games that have resulted in insightful work, as well as lots of laughs.

In conjunction with National Heritage Month, we also reminded the children of the unofficial National Song of the Turks & Caicos, This Land of Ours (not to be confused with our National Anthem, God Save the Queen!).  The words and music  were written by the Late Dr Conrad Howell.  The children have sung this beautifully and proudly in whole school ‘Celebration Assemblies’ this term.  Here are our Year 3 and 5s singing together.

Theatre Arts is a very popular session that the children are thoroughly enjoying this year.  Classes will continue to the end of term and will now concentrate on preparation for the School’s Christmas Musical Show, ‘Cinderella & Rockefeller’, which will be performed on Friday 4th December  & Saturday 5th December.

If your child is thirsty for more Theatre Arts and Drama experiences then please check out the classes available at Provo Performing Arts, a Provo Primary affiliated after-school programme.
