How Wild are Year 4?

yr-4-wild-things-feb-2016 (1)This term Year 4 have been showing Provo Primary that they really are the most WILD of all the wild things! They have accomplished this through a Talk for Writing project in Literacy this half term for their Age Of Exploration topic.

Looking at adventure stories, we focused on the story of Where the Wild Things are (WtWTA). They story of young Max and how he used his imagination to discover a far off land inhabited by Wild Things.

But first we had to learn the story of WtWTA. We did this through story maps and oral recitals. The children really immersed themselves in the Talk for Writing approach and we started to notice some children began to show signs of being Wild Things!

During our art lessons the children created their very own Wild Things; you may notice these in an up and coming annual book…
Once the stories where written, each being adapted to each of the children’s new lands and magical creatures, the children put themselves in groups to begin the multimedia projects. Thankfully we have Mr Jason, our expert Computing Coordinator, at Provo Primary.  The children worked closely with Mr Jason, picking out key parts of their stories. After this, they were set the challenge to use the schools facilities to create a series of freeze frames to act as pictures for their posters. As you can see the children had lots of fun and seemed to be in their element acting like Wild Creatures! Finally, the children collectively put their word processed stories, freeze frames and illustrations on to their posters, creating a spectacular visual story.

These pictures and their wonderful stories will be on display at the up and coming Open House during Education Week. Come along and check them out.  It’s safe to say you will be impressed at the outcome!  Well done, Year 4 and a special thank you to Mr Jason for helping with the multimedia aspect of this project.
