‘Hideaway’ with Provo Performing Arts School

It’s so amazing to see so many of our Provo Primary Students performing in this amazing video – both past and present – all linked together and connected through dance. A true combination of talent, enthusiasm, hard work and dedication.  Well done, everyone!  I am thoroughly looking forward to your ‘Summer Showcase’ performance – Miss Sian.

Are you inspired to dance?  Provo Performing Arts School invite you to read on to learn how this video came about, and to see details on how you can sign up for their new dance sessions starting in Monday 20th April.  See the full programme details here.  You’ll need to sign up by 3rd April if you want to participate in the ‘Summer Showcase’.

Last summer the ‘Pharrell Happy’ ‘youtube craze was sweeping the world. I had heard that a local videographer was planning a TCI version and I thought it presented the perfect opportunity for a dance class of mine to showcase their work. We had been learning a routine to the music for a couple of weeks. After the shoot, Mark Gangasing approached me and said he would like to work with the girls again and asked me to come up with a narrative.

In January I saw Keiza’s “Hideaway” pop video for the first time and thought it was the perfect project – so I contacted Mark and started work on the choreography and direction.

Two of Provo Performing Arts School dance classes learnt the choreography over a period of 2 weeks. We meet for just an hour a week, so they learnt everything in 2 hours, which is such credit to them.

On Sunday March 1st at 7am, we all met at Regent Village and spent 45 minutes blocking the choreography into the public space. Just before 8am, we shot the video in one take.

Registration

Provo Performing Arts School is breaking for Easter Break now, but classes resume on Monday April 20th and run for 10 weeks until Friday June 26th.

If you are interested in joining any of the classes, you can contact Niki Flowers for information –  classes are almost full and pre-registration is required, so we recommend that you do this at your earliest convenience. New students will probably want to be involved in our upcoming performance, which will be staged at Tropicana Show & Supper Club on Sunday June 14th, 2015.

Children that wish to participate in the show will perform on stage with their class mates. The production will showcase the School’s diverse repertoire and give the children an opportunity to show friends and family what they’ve learnt in the term/year. Following the show there will be a prize giving for students that have worked particularly hard or excelled. The closing date for show participation is Friday April 3rd, so that costumes can be ordered, made and shipped from the US.
