Helping to Make Dreams a Reality

Thank you to everyone who is helping to make our soccer pitch dream a reality.  With our upcoming Curry Night and Children’s Art Auction fund raising event that we hope will complete the funds needed, here is an update on the worthy cause it will support.

In the previous school year, members of the student council unanimously voted that the project they would most like to accomplish was bringing a proper soccer pitch to the school. This was a big dream they brought to the PTA, asking for help to find a way to make it a reality.

After great amounts of research, an artificial turf surface has been selected as the optimal solution for the purpose and the environment. Artificial surfaces are used the world over by a wide variety of organisations from major league football teams to world class football clubs.

As a fortunate turn of fate, the school has been made aware that the Turks and Caicos Islands Football Association is also embarking on a similar project. Thanks to grants they have received from FIFA, they are about to install an artificial pitch just next door.

Greenfields, a company based in the Netherlands, is providing the turf for the local FIFA pitch and have agreed to offer a similar product for the school’s pitch at a reduced cost. This surface looks and feels just like real grass, but requires no maintenance and most importantly, no additional up-keep costs for the school. Underneath the turf will be advanced shock pads, ensuring maximum safety and longevity for the artificial turf. With an 8-10 year lifespan, it provides the perfect solution for the school.

This isn’t just a soccer pitch, but will become a multi-use surface where upon pre-school to Year 6 students can enjoy for a variety of projects. Imagine a teddy bear’s picnic, a surface for cricket club, a much needed area for P.E. lessons, the list is endless.

With the help of the community, this dream of building a safe place for children to run, jump and play soccer for years to come, is becoming a reality for the students of Providenciales Primary School. When children return to school from the Christmas break we hope that they will have a green grassy area to play.

And be assured, everyone’s support will not be forgotten, as many of the children who carry the scars on their knees will be a reminder to everyone how daring to dream is only the beginning.

Thank you to everyone who is helping us to make this dream a reality.
