Fabien Cousteau Visits The Turks and Caicos Islands!

fabien-cousteau-march-2014-3Fabien Cousteau,  world-renowned conservationist and environmentalist and the grandson of Jacques Cousteau, visited the Turks and Caicos Islands last week.  The Turks and Caicos Reef Fund organised an Educational Outreach event for the TCI Student Community and our Year 4, 5 and 6 students attended an inspiring presentation by Fabien about the importance of protecting the marine environment.

Fabien’s deep passion for marine life and his fascinating adventures captivated the students.  He also told us about a special future project, Mission 31, which we will enjoy following the progress of in May/June.  The students had the opportunity to ask Fabien some questions, and ‘a sea of hands’ arose from the audience.  Fabien remarked that he had never done a school presentation where so many hands were raised, and where the questions asked were so intelligent and well thought out.

Fabien has dedicated his life to furthering the understanding and preservation of the global marine environment and educating the public as to the vital importance of our oceans for the overall health of the planet.  He  expressed much hope in young people looking after our oceans and left us with a quote from his grandfather…

‘People protect what they love’

Thank you for highlighting the human-ocean connection with us, Fabien.  A big thank you also to David and Don from the TCIRF for organising his visit and to the BWIC School for offering the presentation venue.
