During our Shark Week, Year 3 went Shark and Teeth Crazy!

yr3-teeth-april-2015-6In Science we have been looking at Teeth and in Numeracy we have been looking at Fractions. To combine our shark learning we decided to make some pop-up sharks with different coloured teeth. Look out for these beautiful sharks when you are out snorkeling next time!

Our challenge was to find the fraction of different coloured teeth for our individual sharks. We are now the fraction teeth experts but can you recognise who is behind each shark mouth in the photos?

We also worked really well together producing multi-coloured shark posters. Each person in the group had to draw a piece of the shark that eventually was pieced together to make one whole group shark. We then added lots of new facts to the posters by using our research skills while exploring a really informative children’s shark website.

What a fabulous week it has been. Not only were we doing lots of ‘sharky’ things in class. We also had the Shark Defenders Team come in to do some ‘cool’ activities with all of us too.

PLUS… We also had an informative and fun trip to visit Dr Mark our favourite dentist that complimented our ‘teethy’ activities. Not only did we learn lots of information about how to look after our teeth and what instruments Dr Mark used, but we also got to see what goes on ‘behind the scenes’! How lucky we are to have such supportive parents and professionals in our community to assist us in our love of learning. A HUGE thank you to everyone!
