Celebrating Academic Success

As we head towards the end of another school year, we would like to share with you some scores and statistics from our recent tests.

Firstly, let me put things into context: in the UK children do SATs (Standard Assessment Tests) at the end of each ‘Key Stage’. A Key stage as a group of years.

Key Stage 1 is from Kindergarten to Grade 2

Key Stage 2 is from Grade 3 to Grade 6

Key Stages 3 and 4 run from Grade 7 to Grade 11(secondary school)

Our Grade 6 children did the KS2 SATs and their results were outstanding. By this age, the tests are quite formal and intensive: they have a Mental Maths Paper and 2 written Maths papers worth 100 marks in total; they have 2 Science papers worth 80 marks in total; they have a Reading paper worth 50 marks, 2 Writing papers (including Spelling and Handwriting) worth 50 marks, giving a total of 100 marks for English. The expectation is that children of this age will attain a Level 4B. Below is a table showing the statistics for the Grade 6 results (compared with the average for all schools in the UK)

In addition, a number of our Grade 5 children (who have been working with the Grade 6 in one or more of these subjects throughout the year) also did the Grade 6 SAT. Their results are . . . words fail me!

In addition, all of our children who did the BWI Collegiate Entrance Exam ( 2 for Grade 7 and 3 for Grade 6) passed and were accepted. I am very glad to say, that some (in addition to those who chose not to sit this exam) will be staying with us as members of our new Grade 6/7 class. We wish the others well in their future education.

Our Grade 2 children did the KS1 SATs and the results were superb. The emphasis at this age is on testing with minimum fuss to reduce anxieties, so some children may not have realised that they were being tested. The expectation is that children of this age will attain a Level 2B. Below is a table showing the statistics for the Grade 2 results (compared with the average for all schools in the UK)

I am sure you would like to join me in congratulating all of the children on their results – due to positive attitudes, high motivation and the strong learning environment that Provo Primary School provides.
