Books, Books, Books – It’s World Book Day, of course!

Yesterday was a fun packed day of World Book Day activities.  Marking its 20th anniversary, this annual celebration of authors, illustrators and reading is recognised in more than 100 countries around the world.

The main aim of World Book Day is to encourage children to explore the pleasures of books and we certainly had lots of opportunities for this throughout the day… click on to see photos of our Book Character Dress Up, Book Swap, Non-Fiction Quiz and BWIC drama skits.

How did you celebrate World Book Day?

Book Character Dress Up:

Wow – such a variety of book characters invaded our school – creative costumes galore – such fun! Here are some Year 3 costumes – can you guess who is ‘Stig of the Dump’!

Book Swap:

New books for old – “I can’t wait to read my new ‘Book Swap’ book!”

Year 5 visited the library to take on a ‘Non-Fiction Quiz – the Great Race’:

Visiting Year 9s from the British West Indies Collegiate:

The Year 9s from the BWIC entertained KS2 with phenomenal fairy tale skits.  After this, they read story books to KS1 and also got to hear some of the children read to them.  We really look forward to this time each year when these young people come to visit us.  Thank you to Miss Rankin and Year 9:
