Superb Spring Inter-Island U12 TAG Rugby Competition

tag-rugby-comp-april-2016 (3)Last Saturday morning saw Provo Primary school take part in the Spring Inter-Island U12 tag rugby competition. With tag rugby being such a popular sport on the island and interest from all schools at an all-time high, it was no surprise that Provo Primary could enter two teams: Provo Thunder and Provo Hurricanes.

With competition at such a level, Provo Thunder and Hurricanes instantly realised that they had to use all the skills they have mastered during tag rugby club as well as a strong sense of team work and communication. Both teams played exceptionally well against really well-organised and disciplined teams

from the International School, British West Indies Collegiate, the Middle School and Enid Capron.  Both teams had very hard groups, with Provo Thunder not managing to get out of the pool, yet scoring some unbelievably well put together team tries. Provo Hurricanes managed to escape their pool with 2 wins and a loss, only to fall short against a much improved International School team.

Unfortunately, Provo Primary’s teams were unable to retain the mantle of the Annual Inter-School Tag Rugby Tournament champions. However, the standard of rugby played by the children was noticeably an improvement from last year and the children should all be very proud of their progression in such a great sport. A special thank you to Simon Taylor and Ryan Jones – their assistance with the two teams was a big help. A huge thank you has to go out to the organisational skills of Brennen Guy and Tom Fielding of TCIRFU.  Yet again another hugely successful competition. Finally, a massive well done for Enid Capron in being victorious in such a highly competitive competition.

Congratulations, Provo Primary!  I was really impressed with the high level of your skills, your fantastic team work and your sportsmanship.  You had boundless energy and a real determination to keep trying your best in each game until the final whistle blew!  You should be really proud of yourselves, your team mates and all of the other children too. What a fantastic morning of entertaining sports from all of the teams – well done TCIRFU for promoting and encouraging the youth rugby here in the TCI.  Also, well done to coach, Mr. George for all your efforts and to all of the families who game out to support everyone.  Miss Sian
