Miss Bonnie introduced an ‘I am’ writing frame to our year 4 – 6 children. Here are some reflective poems written by Rahim, Millie, Amanda and Grace.
I Am Rahim
I am an imaginative boy who likes to dream,
I wonder if the world is ours, free for us to take,
I hear the sounds of achievement ringing in my ears,
I see characters popping out of fantasies and books,
I want to be able to dream away for hours and hours on end,
I am an imaginative boy who likes to dream…
I pretend that my favourite superheroes can walk beside me,
I feel as if I can lock myself away in a book without a key,
I touch the earth and feel sorrow and fascination,
I worry that one day I will have no dream, no imagination,
I cry at the sight of other people who have no dreams,
I am an imaginative boy who loves to dream.
I understand that some of my dreams will never come true,
I say if I can imagine it, I can make it happen,
I dream that I can change the world with a single finger,
I try to think that I can stop wars,
I hope that my dream do come true,

I Am Millie
I am a fun girl who loves music.
I wonder what people think every second,
I hear Caribbean music ringing in my ears,
I see the world brighten every minute,
I want to be a fashion designer very minute of my day,
I am a fun girl who loves music.
I pretend that everything is great when it’s not,
I feel so happy when I see this one person,
I touch the soft fur of a newborn puppy,
I worry that no one is happy in this world,
I cry when I have no one to speak to,
I am a fun girl who loves music.
I understand doubting yourself is not going to get you far,
I say that one day everything will all make sense,
I dream that everyone has love because everyone desires it,
I try to be fair and understanding,
I hope that everyone will smile no matter what because when you smile,
the whole world smiles with you,

I Am Amanda
I am a dreaming girl who loves music.
I wonder if I am a good big sister,
I hear birds and voices in my head,
I see the world in an optimistic way,
I want to do well in everything I do,
I am a dreaming girl who loves music.
I pretend I am something I’m not,
I feel happy when I do well, but sad when I don’t,
I touch an invisible bag letting out all of my feelings,
I worry I’m over confident towards some things,

I understand I won’t get everything I want,
I say, “believe” to others who doubt themselves,
I dream about my future because I know it will be great,
I try to set a good example for others,

I Am Grace
I am kind and fun to be with.
I wonder why people are so filled with hate,
I hear the sound of silence wherever I go,
I see the pages of my book coming to life,
I want a series of books to never end,

I pretend I can sail with the stars,
I feel special and relaxed,
I touch a warm and delicate sand dollar,
I worry all my family will disappear,
I cried at my Grandfather’s funeral,

I understand the circle of life,
I say why are people so filled with hate?
Why waste your life that way?
