Junior-Kindergarten

Our Junior Kindergarten (JK) programme is for 3 and 4 year olds.

The day begins between 8.15 – 8:30 AM and ends at 3:00PM. There is also an optional half-day JK programme, which ends at 12:00 noon.

Children are introduced to a range of pre-reading, writing and number activities. The emphasis is on learning for meaning and enjoyment and we very much believe that children learn best through playing, investigating and doing. Children are introduced to Letterland and Jolly Phonics songs, games and rhymes. By the end of JK, most children are familiar with letter sounds, are able to recognize and write the symbol for their name and in some cases write their whole name, count with understanding and to recognize that numbers are used to represent their counting.

During circle time, activities are introduced to the children. Next children go to different centres and engage in a variety of activities. It is the teacher’s role to extend upon the child’s natural curiosity and encourage them to look and learn further.

At the end of the session children come together and discuss what they have done, allowing the teachers to assess what the children have learnt and where to help them go next.

All children should bring with them plenty of water to drink, a healthy snack including at least one serving of fruit and vegetables and a packed lunch if staying all day. They should also bring a change of clothes. Children should not bring candies, chocolate, sodas to school and are discouraged from bringing any “junk food”

JK Curriculum
Our programme follows the U.K Early Years Foundation Stage and incorporates a range of different approaches towards learning such as High Scope and Montessori. It is with the Early Years Foundation Stage’s developmental areas in mind, that our school day, activities and assessments are based.

Topic themes are introduced for the class to explore together, helping to make learning fun and meaningful.  See our latest topic plans.
