Music

‘Music is a powerful, unique form of communication that can change the way people feel, think and act. It develops pupils’ ability to listen and appreciate a wide variety of music. It encourages active involvement in music making, both individual and communal, developing a sense of group identity and togetherness.’
(The British National Curriculum)

Music is a very important element of our school’s character that is recognised throughout the community. Though our music curriculum, students use a range of musical instruments to develop their musical understanding.

Our well-equipped music room allows the students the opportunity to develop their musical talents even further and older students enjoy the privilege of using the room to create, practise and share music together during their free time.

Steel Drums

Children have the opportunity to learn steel drums in our after school clubs.  The Steel band plays in school events and also ventures out into the community to play at weddings and local events.

Being a part of the steel band is not only a cultural musical experience, but also serves, as do all aspects of Music and Drama, as a self-esteem building activity, which affects all other areas of learning.
