Design and technology

‘Design and Technology prepares students to participate in tomorrow’s rapidly changing technologies. They learn to think and intervene creatively to improve quality of life. They must look for needs, wants and opportunities and respond to them by developing a range of ideas . . . making products and . . . combining practical skills with and understanding of aesthetics’
(The British National Curriculum)

During Technology class, children work on their own and as part of a team designing and making a range of products. They have access to a wide a range of materials and learn how to use tools safely and effectively. The subject calls for students to become autonomous and creative problem solvers. They think about what products are used for and the needs of the people who use them.
