Kindergarten are Great Critical Thinkers

k-critical-thinking-sept-20Over the course of last week, the Kindergarten class read Hugh Lofting’s Travels of Doctor Dolittle as part of a shared reading/critical thinking skills workshop in Literacy.  As well as answering questions, they also acted out several parts of the book.  Here they are creating a bridge across the mountain.

Travels of Doctor Dolittle is a story about Doctor Dolittle traveling to Africa to help vaccinate  some sick monkeys while being chased by the king’s soldiers. It’s a fun and imaginative book.

Miss Tracy posed several critical thinking questions and scribed what the children said. Below are two examples of questions and answers about the book.

Question #1: What questions do we wish we could ask our pet?
Do you want more food? (BW)
Why do you look at me? (CS)
Do you like baths? (EB)

Question #2: How will the animals and Doctor Dolittle cross the mountain (to escape the soldiers)?
Make a bridge ( HP)
Bend the tree to fly across it (BC)
Jump tree to tree (GO)

What interesting ideas!
