Looking for a fun educational site that can help children improve your child’s spelling skills. Miss Alison recommends that you check out Spelling City
This site:
– contains over 25,000 words, including plurals, contractions, future and past tenses
– uses a REAL human voice that says both the word and the word in a sentence
– has a ‘Teach Me’ function that spells out the word using both visual and auditory input to improve retention
– allows parents to enter and save their own spelling lists for their children
– lets children play games with their words or any saved lists
– enables parents to save and share their lists.
This is an American website so remember that our Grades will be one lower on this site – eg. Our Grade 1 is an American Kindergarten and our Grade 3 will be an American Grade 2.
Presently, this site is best viewed in Internet Explorer as it has some known issues with Firefox.
On the morning of Friday 16th November, a group of 6 girls and 3 boys represented Provo Primary School in the National Cross Country Championships.
Schools from all over Turks and Caicos took part and our children participated in the 1 mile event for children under 11. All of the children completed the course in quite exceptional times – bearing in mind that the team had been hit by illness over the past 2 weeks, affecting training schedules. In fact, our Girls’ Team finished within a few places of each other, demonstrating super team spirit and our best team score to date. There were only 3 boys able to compete and they all did well – our best placing being 5th overall – an outstanding achievement considering the size of our school and the number of competitors.
Well done to all our athletes, we are so proud of you!
On Tuesday 19th June, Josh, Jade, Alexis and Samuel graduated from our school.
The children in Grades 3 – 6 have been writing poetry with Miss Bonnie, our visiting volunteer teacher from Canada. Click to read some of their poems and to learn more about the Private Eye program that she uses to help inspire the children to look closely at everyday objects around them and ask the question – “What is that like?”
The very talented Grade 6 Provo Primary Steel Band were excited to record their first CD this week. With 13 tracks, this CD includes 13 of their favourite songs. Each child was presented with a copy of the CD at their Graduation and we hope that, in the future, it will always bring back fond memories of their early musical accomplishments. Read on to see a movie clip of the recording session and to hear a sample track…
Following on from the highly successful Kindergarten Sports’ Day, Grades 1 to 6 had their annual Sports’ Day at 4.00pm this afternoon. The children arrived at the Football Field wearing their team colours and competed against each other demonstrating a wide range of skills and a lot of stamina!
Micro-organisms are small (very small) living organisms that like the same things as we do: oxygen, moisture, food and an even temperature. Micro-organisms exist everywhere: some are harmful and even dangerous, some cause no problems and even help us (for instance in our digestive tracts).
We were looking at ‘friendly’ bacteria like yogurt and yeast. We investigated the effect of yeast when making bread. We made 6 different sets of bread rolls – ranging from having no yeast to too much yeast – and observed the effect. As you can see, the amount of yeast made a significant difference.
Having now had enough time to complete our rides, we thought you might like to see 3 of the finished, working models.
Each ride includes a video, so they make take a few minutes to upload to your computer, please be patient!
On Thursday, the older children were ‘book buddies’ for the younger ones: this meant that they chose a book that younger children might like, read it so as they knew what it was all about, then shared it with some younger children (remembering to use expression and to let them see the pictures).
As part of our technology this term Grade 6 are building rotating fairground rides; some are based on carousels (horizontal rotation) and some on ferris wheels (vertical rotation). The objective was to make our rides rotate using cogs, pulleys, motors and batteries.
We in Grade 6 are lucky to have Mrs Krys working with us every week. Last term, she covered the ‘basics’ of Adobe Photoshop and this term, we are learning how to alter and adapt the photos we take to improve them.

Many thanks to those Grade 6 parents who came along to our SATs Information Evening on 18th January.
In England, all Grade 6 children sit SATs before leaving Primary School – this is how they are assessed in Maths, English and Science. As Provo Primary School follows the English National Curriculum, our Grade 6 children will sit these tests too. They are based on the work the children have done from Grades 3 to 6.
Grade 6 have begun creating a little piece of rainforest in Provo Primary School.
Â
From painted footprints with Kindergarten to soccer with Grades 5 and 6 at Palencia Academy to photography with Mrs Krys, Grade 6 have enjoyed helping and working with all of these people
Although most of us were not born in the Turks and Caicos Islands, this is where we live and it is important to know how it got to be the way it is now. Miss Marva from Palencia Academy has been doing a Social Studies project which includes looking at the history of the islands. We’ve found that different groups of people have inhabited the islands at different times leaving their mark. They came, and left, for different reasons but have all contributed to the way that Turks and Caicos has developed. We will also help shape how it continues to develop.

After only two music lessons this term, the children in Provo Primary School Senior Steel Band are already playing three songs: Calypso Warm Up, Jamaica Farewell and Matilda. These young musicians are taking it very seriously this year and I have no doubt that they will be out in the community playing in no time. If you happen to enter the school during recess times, you may hear them practising in their spare time and WOW do they sound good!!!
 Â
Grade 6 may be the smallest class in the school but we are already making a big impression.
The example we set every day demonstrates what we at Provo Primary School expects of our pupils. We are superb ‘role models‘.
