Spelling City
Looking for a fun educational site that can help children improve your child’s spelling skills. Miss Alison recommends that you check out Spelling City
This site:
– contains over 25,000 words, including plurals, contractions, future and past tenses
– uses a REAL human voice that says both the word and the word in a sentence
– has a ‘Teach Me’ function that spells out the word using both visual and auditory input to improve retention
– allows parents to enter and save their own spelling lists for their children
– lets children play games with their words or any saved lists
– enables parents to save and share their lists.
This is an American website so remember that our Grades will be one lower on this site – eg. Our Grade 1 is an American Kindergarten and our Grade 3 will be an American Grade 2.
Presently, this site is best viewed in Internet Explorer as it has some known issues with Firefox.
Grade 1's and 2's visit the Fire Station!
In May, the Grade 1 and 2’s went to visit the Fire Station. The children were shown around the station, they got the chance to sit in the fire engine and were able to spray the water hose! The children also learned about fire safety and what to do if there was a fire at home. The children even got into the local newspaper.

Grade 1 Self-Portraits
In Grade 1 we have been drawing and painting Self-Portraits. We began by practising drawing the shapes for the eyes, nose, mouth and ears. We then drew and painted our Self-Portraits in stages. We looked closely at our features in mirrors as we drew and painted. We mixed different paints to ensure we got the right colours for our hair, eyes and lips.
Grade 1 are Authors of the future!
We started our two week topic on Non-Fiction writing last week. We began by looking at different Non-Fiction books and made a shared list of their features. We discussed the purpose of each of the features and used our checklist to decide whether different books were Non-Fiction or Fiction.
The children in Grade 1 work hard and play hard!
