In Year 3 we have been realising not only the FUN, but also the importance of working together. Whether it is with one person, a group or the class. When set a task that involves working with others, we realised we had to think about a few things. For instance:

* To listen with open ears to the ideas and points of view of others.

* To share and participate – make sure we do our bit!

* To show respect to other people’s ideas, strengths and weaknesses – we can’t be good at everything!

* To recognise when things are going well or not so well –  do we need a new plan?

* To celebrate the successes of all members of the team.

* To be prepared and recognise that sometimes things don’t work out the first time, that’s ok, we can just try again and even try another way!

This mid-term we have been incredibly lucky to have had the chance to try out a sport that is completely new to most of us here in the T.C.I-Gaelic football Irish: Peil Ghaelach; short name Peil or Caid), commonly referred to as football or Gaelic! It is an Irish team sport, played between two teams of 15 players on a rectangular grass pitch. The objective of the sport is to score by kicking or punching the ball into the other team’s goals (3 points) or between two upright posts above the goals and over a crossbar 2.5 metres (8.2 ft) above the ground (1 point). The range of skills this game tests and improves is fantastic and has been a real eye-opener for Key Stage Two!

There are 14 amazing, brilliant, clever, dynamic, energetic, funny, great, happy, incredible, jolly, kind, lovely, marvellous, nice, optimistic, playful, quirky, rambunctious, super, terrific, unbelievable, very cool, wonderful, Xtraordinary, youthful and zany children in the Year 1 class.

? is a good dancer, a good writer and is good at gymnastics. She has a smiley face. She loves to draw.

Is it possible to build every number from 1 to 100? How would we do it? Which numbers are the hardest to make? Which number would need the most bricks?

Earlier this year, Year 2 investigated how we can represent numbers with Cuisenaire Rods. At first, children added huge rows of the white “1” bricks until, eventually, they lost count of how many they had. It was hard to know the difference between 42 and 43 – those numbers are so similar! [Read more…]

A rose has between 20 – 40 petals, depending on the type of rose?

As part of their learning in Science this term, Year 6 have been studying classification and variation within the animal kingdom. With a specific focus on invertebrates they have been finding out all sorts of scientific information which have left them informed; and fascinated to discover more about this important element of the animal kingdom.

In order to categorize invertebrates carefully, observational skills are a must! Year 6 used this skill to even greater effect in art class, which demanded a pencil sketch of invertebrates drawn from: insects, mollusks, arachnids, crustaceans, echinoderms, Cnidarians, sponges and annelids.

Please check out some of the sketches below or visit the Year 6 classroom to see more. Examine them closely and see how they used paper space to good effect; focused in on light and dark tones using shading; and used lines and curves to give an almost realistic impression!

World Exploration was amongst the many topics Year 4 and I learned about last half term. The subject is fascinating enough, but we were lucky enough to have a visit from Sir Francis Drake himself!

The children had prepared questions for him in advance and had the chance to interview him for about half an hour. He talked to us about many things including his circumnavigation of the globe, what it’s like working for the Queen of England and described Tudor London for us. We had a very rare insight in to life approximately 500 years ago.
