Something shady going on at Provo Primary!

yr3-new-shade-jan-2015 (13)On their first morning back to the new school term, Year 3 could not wait to get out onto the grass area. Not because they did not want to work, but because they wanted to test out the brand new shade that has just recently been added. They were super excited to both see how wonderful it looked and to experience doing their morning stretch in the cool shade. They were so delighted with it that they could not resist but show you some of their stretchy cool moves. A HUGE ‘thank you’ to the PTA for making this all possible. They raised the funds and organised the erection of the shades. Now we can use the grass area for more than just ‘break times’ Hurrah!

Keeping cool and protected under our new shade

shade-jan-2014What a wonderful surprise for the start of our new term – the shade is up!

Having shade over this much loved, but rather hot area will be greatly appreciated by children, teachers and parents alike.

Under the cool of the shade, protected from the sun, this expansive area will now be able to be utilised much more throughout the school day by all of the classes, for a variety of activities.   How fortunate we are!

This has been an immense task and we would like to say a HUGE thank you to everyone involved along the way…. Allie Guest Franck, Natalie Zaidan and Haley Weldon, Peter Karagan, Roland at Tibor’s, David Doherty and Jose Ovando.

Both the grass and the shade are PTA funded and installed ventures and would not have been possible without donations of funds, expertise, time and labour from our PTA members and community supporters.  THANK YOU from all of us at Provo Primary.

Our PTA “Cocktails & Curry” fundraiser – an evening of great food and friends

pta-cocktails-curry-2014 (1)It was an evening of great food and friends at Bay Bistro on May 16th, as the PTA put on a fabulous “Cocktails & Curry” fundraiser that netted thousands of dollars for school and classroom enhancements.

With all classes contributing beautiful artwork and over 50 other silent auction items donated by local businesses, there was lively bidding going on throughout the night, including some via email and cell phone!

As dessert was cleared away, the 100 person+ crowd made their way to the Sandbar after-party where the fun continued into the wee hours, raffle winners were drawn by DJ Dallas and guests were entertained by Johnny’s infamous fire show.

A heartfelt thank you to everyone who came and supported the school – we look forward to allocating the monies raised towards enhancing our children’s education!

Once Upon a Story Night…

bedtime-stories-march-2014-5“Once Upon a Time, on a lovely little island, at a lovely little school, there were lovely little students who loved reading books and listening to stories…”

If a tale was to be written about our annual evening of Bedtime Stories, that would be a fitting opening line.  The sun had begun to set and just the right amount of breeze was blowing, as dozens of children streamed back to school at 5:30 in the evening, wearing their pajamas, clutching their teddy bears and excitedly awaiting the hour of stories that lay ahead.

Sk8 Night A Big Success

Skate-night-2014-255Red-faced, sweaty and all smiles, skaters throughout the night enjoyed the camaraderie of skating with pals from school and elsewhere while parents socialized on the bleachers or got in on the act and skated right along with their kids.  While the younger set had a spot to boogie off the “ice”, this year the majority of children attending – from 3 to 13+ – skated, and skated incredibly well, with nary a wipeout to be seen.

A huge thanks to all that came out and supported the event; the cadre of PTA volunteers that manned the admissions table, rink door, concessions and puck shooting contest., making the evening a smooth running success; to Lemon2Go and Giggles, whom generously donated prizes for the puck shooting contest; and to MELT, who treated each child to a $10 voucher on their way out (many of which were seen being used the following afternoon!).

Santa Visit 2013

santa-visit-2013As is tradition here at Provo Primary, Santa arrived on our last day of term on a bight shiny fire truck!

Wearing flip flops, but still otherwise dressed in his winter suit, he spent over two jolly hours sitting and speaking joyfully to each and every one of our children – and one or two of our teachers as well!

Christmas wishes were whispered to Santa and in return a special book gift received.

Thank you Santa for stopping by, creating lots of smiles and memories.  And also to everyone who helped make this tradition a highlight to our end of term activities.

Alongside Santa’s visit, we were also fortunate to have an ice cream treat, courtesy of  ‘Giggles’.  Thank you for this sweet delight!

At the end of Santa’s time with us, we sent him on his merry way with waves and hugs, a thank you card and a mince pie to enjoy later.  See you next year, Santa!

A whole new experience, Halloween underwater!

turksandcaicos_3093-450x300Last Thursday Brilliant by Tropical Imaging took Halloween photos for charity, as they do every year, here at our Provo Primary School PTA Halloween Party.  After the event, they asked some of the children if they wanted to celebrate Halloween one more time but this time underwater…

Another Spooky & Spectacular Halloween Party!

pta-halloween-night-oct-2013Making the front page of the TCI Weekly News for the 2nd year running, the Provo Primary PTA’s annual Halloween party was a smash hit once again as tribes of ninja’s, groups of Goths and all manner of vampires, witches and zombies invaded the school campus for 2 hours of post-trick or treating fun.

While the spider-web and light encased dance floor proved popular with the younger set, the TCI Middle Schoolers kept other attendees busy with a variety of games including “pin the nose on the pumpkin”, bobbing for apples, pumpkin bowling and spooky darts.  Parents got in on the action as well with costumes that rivalled their children’s’ get-ups…a trio of colourful crayons was seen on premises, and Cleopatra and King Tut also made the scene.

A huge, huge thank you to…

Back To School PTA Beach Get Together

FamilyBeachParty--sept-2013The thunder subsided and the rain held off for a very well-attended Beach Day this past Saturday afternoon.   The beach in front of Ricky’s Flamingo Cafe was the perfect spot for parents to escape the sticky weather and socialize while the kids played soccer, boogie boarded, jumped from the pier and swam like fish with new and old friends.  Families reluctantly began to pack up only as the sun went down and early bedtimes beckoned their extremely sandy and tired children!

New PTA Purchases Enhance Learning Opportunities Across The School!

pta-thank-you-sept-2013At the end of the summer term, the PTA allocated over $6000 to help the school purchase a variety of wonderful new equipment and resources which will enhance the teaching and learning of all the children across the school.  All the children, parents and staff would like to thank the huge number of people and organisations who generously supported our fundraising events last year, allowing us to work together to improve the educational experience of all Provo Primary Students.  Click on to read more about how the money was spent…

PTA News – Autumn 2013

pta-logoWelcome and welcome back to school!  Although the year is new, there is already so much in the works.  First up for the PTA will be getting started on the shade project for the soccer pitch.  Funds for this exciting and long-desired playground improvement were allocated in June but due to the summer holidays, we delayed the project until now.  Please let us know if you have construction/budgeting expertise and would like to be an advisor.

Class rep/Room parent sign up sheets have gone up outside all classroom doors…this is a great way to get involved, assist your child’s teacher and get to know other class parents.

Finally, the PTA is looking for 2 yard sale coordinators.  Provo Primary typically holds 3 Saturday morning yard sales throughout the year (1 per term).  A straight-forward and relatively simple money maker, these sales are extremely popular with the community. Term 1 – tentatively set for Saturday 5th October.

PLEASE MARK YOUR CALENDARS:

SAT. SEPT. 14 – Provo Primary Term 1 PTA Beach Party – pack a cooler and head over to the beach by Ricky’s Flamingo Cafe for socializing and swimming with other school families.  The fun begins at 3:30pm.

MON. SEPT 16 – 6:30pm – 7:30pm, School Library – Term 1 PTA Meeting.  Please join us as we see how PTA funds from last year were allocated and make plans for the year ahead.  All parents are welcome!  Childcare will be available.

THURS. OCT 31 – Provo Primary’s Annual Family Friendly Halloween Party.  New ideas always welcome for this fantastic annual event that made the front page of the paper last year!  Volunteer sign-ups will go up in October for ticket sales, bartenders/concessions, decorating and entertainment committees.

Look forward to seeing you around school!
