ps-bounce-2013 Our Preschool class had lots of fun bouncing like ‘Bouncing Ben’ from Letterland.

They bounced up and down the green field collecting paper carrots.  Afterwards, our little ‘bunnies’ enjoyed crunching on real carrot sticks.

The Bounce-a-thon was a preschool adaptation of our Bike-a-walk-a-thon fundraising event. Congratulations to all our bouncing bunnies and thank you for all the generous donations you collected that will go towards the purchase of new computer and reading resources across the school!

Early Years’ Science Fair – March 2013

Friday morning saw the launch of our first Science Fair.  Throughout our Early Years’ classes, a multitude of hands-on  learning activities were being explored.  It was lovely to see parents, visitors and children together observing,  problem solving, predicting, thinking, making decisions and most importantly talking about what they were doing.   A big thank you to all our teachers for their hard work and to all the parents and visitors who came to enjoy and share the science learning with the children.  If sadly you weren’t able to make it, we hope you gain a feel for our Science Fair through the short movie above.

Street Art in Preschool

ps-street-art-march-2013 (14)One sunny morning, Preschool all went out to the big playground to paint on the ground using a mixture of water and glitter.  They created some fantastic outdoor art.  As the children painted, they commented on what they could see… “look a circle, an aeroplane, a letter D, a cross, a house, a face, a girl, a train, a letter A, a caterpillar, a letter H, a triangle, a sad face and a car”. After a while, the water dried up and our playground was covered in glitter art.

The children adored the freedom of being able to paint with no restrictions.  They also enjoyed being able to choose to sit by themselves, quietly with a few others, or chatting in a group.  It was amazing to watch our little artists so absorbed in creativity.

Preschool’s Magic Beans!

ps-magic-beans-feb-2013-2Today we started to explore water in our Science lessons using some ‘Magic Jungle Beans’.   We counted 8 tiny beans into a bowl of of cold water and took turns mixing them.  In the cold water the beans did not grow…. so we moved them into warm water and ‘POP’ the first magic jungle bean cracked open and a hippo-shaped sponge grew by absorbing the water, right before our eyes! It was so much fun watching the beans ‘grow’.  After they all the beans had opened, we counted and named the animals that had grown: 2 hippos, 2 monkeys, 2 crocodiles and 2 elephants! Tomorrow we will be exploring sinking and floating!

Preschool are as Busy as Bees!

Hi! This month in Preschool we are enjoying music and dance in preparation for our end of term show and our daily craft activities are helping our hand eye coordination skills. Last week we had a ‘big kid’ helper who loved being chased on the green field and he also helped us to learn how to skip.  During free play in class, we are very busy in construction – we have discovered how to build towers, funny faces, castles and ladders.  Have a look at our busy bee pictures and enjoy the fun!

Preschool Love Learning!

Over the past few weeks we have focused on movement, messy play and matching.  Our indoor/outdoor activities refine the children’s hand eye co-ordination, walking skills, language and sensory skills.  Take a look at our photographs and see how we have used  shapes and colours as a launch pad for learning these skills.  Preschool also loved indoor snack on a ‘cold’ rainy day and had a spontaneous child-initiated snuggly rest afterwards…. look at our colourful ‘beds’!

Our Preschoolers are Growing!

We are excited to begin the Summer term in Preschool and have started off with sowing seeds.  We planted some sunflower seeds on Tuesday.  The children enjoyed mixing the soil and pushing in their seeds – it was lots of messy fun! By Thursday we already had some shoots and now, a week later,  they are growing very strong… amazing! Each day we are very carefully checking the soil to see if they require water.

To celebrate our planting, we made a beautiful painting to display on our classroom wall. Click on ‘Read more…’ to see some photos of us doing our planting and of our wonderful painting.

If you have any old pots (even old boots) you would like to donate to the school, our preschoolers would be overjoyed and will take great pleasure in planting some flowers and herbs in them!

Preschool Enjoy their Indoor and Outdoor Activities

In the Preschool class, we have thoroughly enjoyed playing in our hospital role-play area, pretending to be doctors, nurses and receptionists and looking after our ‘patients’ and baby dolls with great care.  Our hospital then went on to include a hair salon!

Building and construction have played a big part of classroom life and the children have been busy finding new ways of using our construction toys.  We have also explored the topic ‘On The Farm’, and the children have adored painting and sticking to create farm animals and machinery.  All their art work is making our classroom extremely bright and colourful.

As well as all of these indoor activities, the children have been very busy outside.  Playing with balls on our school soccer field is definitely a firm favourite!

Please read on to see a selection of photos of our Preschool’s enjoying their activities.

Shiver me Timbers, It’s Father’s Day

To celebrate Fathers’ Day, PreSchool and Junior Kindergarten held a “Pirate Papas” event. Children and dads alike entered into the spirit of the occasion and dressed up in their best pirate outfits. The scene was set for our motley crew as they listened to a story about a pirate boy and his pirate papa.  Next, with a song, the search for booty began as they set off on a hunt around a desert island in search of a hoard of golden nuggets which was rumoured to have been hidden by another band of pirates! Once they were sure every piece of hidden treasure had been found our pirates returned to their ship for a hearty snack. What a great adventure!  Click on to see more photos of the Pirate adventure!

EYFS Spring Bonnets and PTA Egg Hunt

Traditionally, we end our Spring Term with a bonnet parade and PTA Egg Hunt. The younger children in the school amazed us all with their egg-stremely creative Spring Bonnets. What a lot of work must have gone into some of these. I’m sure the children enjoyed making them and showing them to everyone! Both young and old across the school, enjoyed hunting for eggs in our traditional Egg Hunt and we thank the PTA for organising this much-loved event.

April Fool!

The JK and Preschool teachers and children played an April Fool joke on each other today.  To the shock and horror of the children, they saw their teachers eating paint and enjoying it!  Their faces and reactions were a picture to see.  The teachers had secretly mixed up some special purple paint, made from yoghurt and colouring.  After explaining the trick, all the children enjoyed eating the yummy paint and then tricked Miss Claire Marie who couldn’t believe her eyes when she saw them eating it! Click on to see the children’s surprised faces on the photos.
