Earth Day – School Garden Opening

Spring is in the air and thanks to the combination of hard work and donations from community members, Provo Primary has a wonderful new garden area. The garden was officially opened on Earth Day.  A ribbon was cut by our oldest and youngest child at the ceremony.  The children were excited to get started, digging in the soil and planting a variety of herbs, fruits and vegetables.

Preschool – From Tiny Seeds

We are so excited to share with you our most recent study about “How things Grow”.  The children have been learning about seeds, soil, and a variety of plants.  They planted sweet basil, tomatoes, sunflowers and other seeds, to watch them grow.  We will eventually transplant these seedlings into our new garden.  Look at some photos of us planting them and then having our photo taken with them a week later.  Do you like our Earth Day Earth?

PS / JK Garden Visit

To celebrate Earth Day and all we have recently learned about plants,  the Preschool and Jr. Kindergarten enjoyed a Garden Picnic at the wonderful home of one of our parents. During this field trip the children were able to plant seeds, observe different kinds of lettuce growing (and tasted some too), as well as tomatoes, peppers and more. The children then had a lovely play swinging, sliding, climbing, and bouncing on a trampoline! They enjoyed singing songs together and listening to a few stories on a blanket under the trees. It was a perfect way to celebrate “How things Grow” and to enjoy Earth Day. See more photos here.

Green Fingered Year Ones!

At the end of last term, our two Year One classes planted beans in plastic bags and hung them outside the classroom in order to observe them growing. Very soon, the roots and the shoots appeared and after drawing and writing about the changes they saw, they planted them in pots. Over the Easter holidays (and after a little TLC!) the beans have now shot up and are ready to be planted in our new garden area. Have a look at the photos showing children potting the bean plants and observing them carefully in the classroom with magnifying glasses. See if you can spot anything precious on one of the leaves in the last photo…

Ancient Greek Day

Last term ,Year3/4 celebrated the end of their Ancient Greek topic by having an Ancient Greek day.  The children came to school dressed in Greek clothes and really looked the part!  All of Year 3/4 would like to say a BIG thanks to parents who contributed to their Greek Feast!  The day was a huge success!

Journalist Club Visit New Hospital On Provo

On Wednesday 24th March the children from Miss Steph’s journalist club tested their interviewing and questioning skills during a tour of the new hospital on Providenciales. First, the children met with Kathleen Bree and Roger Cheesman the CEO of Interhealth Canada Turks and Caicos Islands. They asked a range of questions to find out the history of the hospital, what facilities would be on offer and information about their new staff. The children were then given a tour of the hospital, where they were able to take photographs. Miss Steph was impressed by the children’s enthusiasm and their genuine interest shown by the range of original and thoughtful questions asked. The newspaper report will be printed in the our first edition of the Provo News later next month. We would like to say a HUGE thanks to the hospital for giving us this amazing opportunity!
